Spotlight on…Venues

Any regular IBW festival-goer will tell you how many venues we have taken Beatleweek to over the years. International Beatleweek festival has in previous years, put on events and shows in theatres, church halls and church grounds, universities, ferries to name but a few. We delve a little deeper into three venues featuring at 2024s festival.

Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA)

We are excited to see the return of LIPA as a venue for IBW24.

Once The Liverpool Institute for Boys school where both Paul McCartney and George Harrison were educated, this Grade II listed building holds huge Beatles connections which will be a treat for any Beatle fan to experience. And this year our stages extend to the old Liverpool College of Art building (now a part of LIPA) where John Lennon and Stuart Sutcliffe studied in the 1950s.

With a wealth of original features from back in the day, LIPA plays home to ‘It’s Getting Better’ event on Friday 23rd August which will feature multiple stages of live music held in and around the two venues and includes the Paul McCartney Auditorium (pictured below).

The Floral Pavillion, New Brighton

For the first time in Beatleweek history, we take International Beatleweek to the seaside town of New Brighton, Wirral.

The Floral Pavilion and the New Brighton area hold a significant place in Beatles history as they mark a pivotal time in the band's early career. The Theatre stands just yards from the original Tower Ballroom site, where The Beastles performed a reportedly 27 times in their early career. There is no shortage of homage to The Beatles that this traditional seaside town offers, from wall murals to plaques.

The Floral Pavilion plays a pivotal role in our ‘Mad Day Out’ event on Saturday 24th August and is where a highlight show ‘Beatles Vs Stones’ (featuring The Cavern Club Beatles and Rocks Off) will take place.

As well as the main stage, The Pavillion will host several acoustic stages to entertain festival-goers in between grabbing ice cream and visiting the many other New Brighton venues taking part in Internatioanl Beateweek festival. Expect to be exported back to the 1960s and all its glorious nostalgia.

The Pier Head

The Pier Head stands as an iconic location for outdoor stages, offering a stunning backdrop against the majestic Liverpool waterfront and Liver Building. Its expansive space and panoramic views make it an ideal setting for large-scale events, concerts, and performances. Over the years, the Pier Head has hosted numerous music festivals, cultural celebrations, and theatrical productions, attracting both local residents and visitors from around the world.

Home to Liverpool’s iconic three graces; the Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building. Home to the famous Beatles Statues and Ferry terminal to board the ‘Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey’.

The Pier Head will be the location for Monday afternoon’s outdoor extravaganza which will bring together thousands of music fans for a Cavern stage takeover.

Expect world-class acts paying tribute to artists who have performed at The Cavern over the past 6 decades, including The Beatles, The Who, Queen and Elton John.
